This thread is for non-Omani Winter members and Omani Winter members to discuss the upcoming Fan Faire. Of course, you are free to start your own thread, but this one will be stickied to the top of the thread so you can find it easily.

For 2012 there is a extreme lack of information forthcoming from SOE. Right now, it can not even be said for certain if there will be a Fan Faire in 2012.

Based on a poll created by SOE (http://forums.station.sony.com/station/posts/list.m?&topic_id=11500027971) in August 2011 and a post in the same thread, the following is our best guess:

Date

Currently under consideration (gathered from the poll) are:


September 13th – 16th 2012
September 27th – 30th 2012
October 18th – 21st 2012

October 18th – 21st 2012 is the number one choice among those who voted by a large margin. Of course, that doesn't mean that will actually be the date.

Place

According to a post buried deep in the SOE poll thread: Las Vegas will definitely be the city. If there is to be a Fan Faire at all, there is little doubt it will be in Las Vegas. This is due to many reasons, mainly the cost to both SOE and people attending.

The hotel will most likely be Bally's Las Vegas (http://www.ballyslasvegas.com/). The reason is that SOE is able to get a deal there that they state can not be matched elsewhere, quote, "The price is right for SOE and for guest rooms."

It is currently 8 months until Fan Faire (the date we were given is October, the only possibly date after all was said in done..). The past 5 or so years, they only started updating plans for Fan Faire at the 4 months to go mark.... so yah, we have time before they get the ball rolling. At least people can start making vacation plans (and costume plans) now.

Has there been an OFFICIAL post by someone at SOE stating this? I haven't seen one.

The current FF page will most likely be redesigned when we announce dates and such this year. We certainly need to address any links to outdated info so if you see them please let me know. EQplayers.station.sony.com is going away so those can be ignored.

As to not having dates and such announced this early, there are many more constraints we face that are not transparent to the players. Getting contracts signed, buy in from all internal and any external partners that need to be involved, etc. We understand people's desire for this information and will get it out as soon as we can.

So, the date is not set in stone? Please make that clear so I can inform people as they are telling me they know for sure that it is on Oct. 18th -21st and it will be at Bally's and they are making plans based on this.

We are going to have people who are planning on that and if it is not confirmed they are going to have problems if it is a different date and/or place.

Please let us know:

1.) Will there be a Fan Faire for sure?
2.) Will it be in Las Vegas?
3.) If you don't know the date and/or place (hotel, city, etc) yet, again, please be totally clear on this.

Again, I can't emphasize enough that there are people currently making plans, reservations, etc. based on what could be faulty information and you need to clear it up right now, even if your answer is, "We don't know for sure, so please don't make reservations".

Thanks again for your reply and awaiting a clear answer I can give people, even if it is, "We don't know, so don't plan".

January 04, 2012 - Site Update

My apologies for the silence over the holidays, as I was hoping against hope that we would have a happier update, or a rough ETA, before I posted. Neither has happened, so here is all I can tell you.

As many of you were aware, we had some serious site downtimes at the beginning of December. After much gnashing of teeth, whimpering and moaning on our part, our hosting provider found the issue. We were told that it was a controller failure, and that our sites had been moved to another server.

There was just one problem.

They restored us to the last full backup, apparently from mid-October.

You can guess what my blood pressure did at that point if you think about what has happened in EQ and EQ2 since that time.

We were told that they were working recovering the rest of the data before the holidays hit.

After a couple weeks of silence due to holiday absenteeism, we were told today that the "entire blade" was shipped to a data recovery expert, and that there was no ETA, but the expectation of a full recovery.

No more gnashing of teeth - it is giving me migraines. No more whimpering, unless they're deep primal whimpers. I am just sort of watching my hope at seeing the lost data any time soon dwindle into nothingness. Keep the faith for me if you can, while I try to just push the stress from my mind for a bit?

For those who are wondering why this is so stressful, here is what that 2 months of lost data entails:
EQ

Untold amounts of expansion-related data entry by our hard-working volunteers - recipes, items, spawn information, etc.
Underlying database updates by the hubbyogre to fields, etc. so that said data entry could proceed. (I had to impinge on his final day of vacation on Monday to have him redo all the changes he'd done, since I had given up hope on the restore)

EQII

The Nights of the Dead preview, story, and all associated images
The expansion preview and story, and all supporting articles and images (other than the apprentice information, which is echoed in the undamaged forums)
All the housing guide updates by Therendil, plus the prestige housing article
The Frostfell preview/story, and all associated images (thankfully, we had a fabulous volunteer working on redoing my cobbled together Frostfell images, so I can run with those, when I find motivation to tackle this mess

Some things, like the item/recipe information on the EQ side, can be redone with a lot of hard work. Other things, like my previews and stories, absolutely cannot be recreated without that restore, due to my habit of composing directly into the site editor.

Anything we do on either site to articles or the EQ item/recipe/etc database since the data loss can/will be overwritten by a restore, as the database replaces those article/item/recipe/etc ids with the old data. So, we could find ourselves spending days and days replacing what we can, only to have it get all jumbled in with the old stuff in a horribly confused mess. Or we could find ourselves stalling for another couple of weeks, only to find that the expectation of a full restore was mistaken.

There is no happy choice at this point, and I know it has to be frustrating to the communities as well. Know that, if anything, we are even more frustrated than you are.

Hang in there, folks! When we know more, you will know more.

Denlar, where are we on that map? Or where is the event on that map? I assume its events center. Will be in Arizona, Grand Canyon, at this time frame, so might as well drive up to Vegas and make a day of it at Fan Faire. It looks hard getting too, see multiple Bally's on Mapquest, Motel and Steakhouse avaiable, thats where I will be, but what road you go left on from E. Falmingo Rd to get to Bally's? Remember I am driving with 70 year old parents that never been to Vegas or a Spa! I guess I am coming West from on E. Flamngo. Is it Las Vegas South?
